Our Pebble Grey Shabby Chic Furniture Paint leaves a matte finish which you can apply without the need of an undercoat or primer. Why? Because it’s so richly pigmented!
It gives beautiful results not only on wooden furniture but can also be used directly on metal, plastic, brick, stone, or plaster!
Preparing your furniture before painting
For the best results when using the Pebble Grey Shabby Chic Furniture Paint, ensure the surface is clean and free from wax or oil. If wax has been used clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit. We recommend that bare wood should be sanded before painting.
Applying your Pebble Grey Shabby Chic Furniture Paint
Stir your pot thoroughly prior to use to ensure the colour is properly mixed. If applying by brush, apply evenly following the grain of the wood. If rolling, use a short nap mohair roller.
To create a distressed look, apply two coats in contrasting colours. Allow to dry then lightly abrade with moistened sand paper or a stainless steel scoring pad – abrade with the grain of the wood. (click on the additional information tab for more info)
What coverage does it offer?
Covers up to 12m2 per litre. The coverage may vary depending upon the method and rate of application and porosity of the furniture surface.
How long does it take to dry?
Within 15 minutes you can apply a second coat of paint, after an hour it is touch dry and after 2 hours it is safe to handle. The paint will be fully set and dry after 3 hours.
Is it easy to clean up?
Our paint can be cleaned from surfaces with warm water and a cloth. Do not empty into drains or water courses because some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings – be sure to check!
Creating a Shabby Chic Look
In order to achieve a vintage or distressed look, we recommend the following:
• First, paint the furniture with a dark colour such as grey or brown.
• Next, paint over the base coat with a lighter colour such as Chalky White and let it dry.
• Finally, scour the edges with a fine sand paper or wire wool until the base-coat colour appears.
You don’t have to go Shabby
You may want to upscale a dated piece of furniture without distressing it. To do this, choose one of the many opulent colours available in our range to suit your home décor. Whether you have a varnished piece of furniture, or bare or painted wood, we would recommend you prepare your surface with a clean, light sand paper. There will be no need to prime or undercoat with our range of products, just paint and see the result.
Wax for long lasting protection
Once you have your desired finish, we recommend a clear wax for long lasting protection. The Shabby Chic Wax range leaves a satin finish with a medium sheen and allows your furniture to withstand the rough and tumble of daily life.
Indoor or Outdoor Use
The choice is yours! The Shabby Chic chalk paint range is fully waterproof, so you can use it on exterior garden furniture to restore the look, as well as protecting it against all weather conditions. It has even been used to restore and protect garden fencing.
How much do I need?
A litre should be sufficient for 12sqm. But coverage can vary, depending on the method and rate of application, and how porous the surface. The tins are available in 125ml, 250ml, 1l, 2.5l.
